Starting the new year with a bang, we wrapped up our very first CITRINE Coffee Chat ‘Maximising Media Relations Through a Better Understanding from the Media Perspective’ session with The Federation of Sarawak Journalists Association, Kuching branch (FSJA Kuching) and Journalists Association of Kuching Division (KDJA). It was truly a productive and insightful session which was attended by about 50 media practitioners and public relations personnel from corporate, government agencies and university students. The interactive session was moderated by Citrine’s SPOT Communications Director, Hazel Jasni, with distinguished panellists from Federation of Sarawak Journalists Association (FSJA)’s, Rudi Affendi Khalik, Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA)’s, Ronnie Teo and Firdaus Arasy Idris.

Being the first PR agency to organise the programme as a platform for the media to reach out to companies in Sarawak, Citrine has helped many of its clients to get their "share of voice" in the media. Dealing with contentious issues affecting stakeholders, providing crisis communications and digital transformation, our advantage lies in our media worldview and perspective, which gives us an edge over our competitors. The panellists concurred that effective media relations meant gaining positive publicity, which in turn, provides credibility to the organisation, resulting in better stakeholders’, shareholders’, and investors’ trust. They also discussed ways to communicate with the media in a crisis, to ensure that the organisation’s reputation remains favourable in any unfortunate turn of events. The panellists also shared some insights into how to write a good news pitch and how companies pitch compelling stories to news outlets.

We sincerely hope that initiatives such as this panel session will raise awareness of the need for local organisations to improve their media relations and crisis communications. In addition, it will also develop skilled communications professionals in East Malaysia. Big thanks to Borneo Post and Utusan Borneo for the coverage!
